Captains and Courts - by the Rev. Dr. Ray R. Sutton

Bishop Ray Sutton is an esteemed Reformed minister who has published a number of books.

He wrote a good little book (about 100 pages), titled Captains and Courts. But up until now, the book has been unpublished and generally unavailable. You may recognize the title of this book, since I have quoted from it extensively in a couple recent threads on this forum.

After years of keeping the book unpublished, Dr. Sutton has given me permission to make this book available for free download off my website. There are already some pdf copies of this book floating around the world via email, but this copy is greatly cleaned up, much better suited for reading and printing. To my knowledge, this is the first time Dr. Sutton's book, Captains and Courts, has been made available to the general public as an online resource.

Without further ado, here is Dr. Suttons book, for your reading pleasure:

Captains and Courts

Enjoy! :book2:

Has anybody on here taken the time to read this book yet? :book2:

If so, what are your thoughts about it? Are you convinced that the Bible teaches us to have an Episcopalian form of Church government? If not, why not?

I have not read it yet, but it is on my list, or at least in the back of my mind. I do believe that the Bible teaches an "episcopal like" system of church goverment. The quesiton is (not haveing read the book) how close the Anglican/REC/ECUSA models are to that system.

Sorry, it is not on my list (it is all filled up right now), what *is* on my list is to read Owen and Edwards and try to glean how and why they were congregationalists. If you know any good resources on that, I'd be very interested.

Thought I'd mention here that I've read through the reasoning in this and it pretty much has me convinced that episcopal church government is biblical.

I had no real problems as a Presbyterian understanding the arguments and it seems to me episcopal church polity (properly administered) nessecarily includes a form of presbyterian polity as well.
